Parent PINs For Schoology

Parent and Community Services (PCS) has developed a plan for parents requesting

their Parent Portal PIN. Attached are two documents to assist you.

Legal Guardians will be able to request their Parent Portal PIN by calling the

dedicated Help Desk Number (213) 241-5200. The agent will assist them in

obtaining their PIN by connecting with them through Zoom or Skype to obtain

the Parent ID verification.

Parents may use any of the following forms of ID: CA Driver's License, CA ID card,

Passport or Consulate Card. They will be asked a series of questions based on

the information in LAUSD MiSiS - these questions are included in the Attachment 1

in the highlighted section.

Beginning on Monday, March 30, PCS will be assisting the Help Desk with

Parent Portal PIN requests. Local District South PACE will continue to support

schools and parents with Parent Portal PIN requests as well.

Principal's Message: March 30, 2020

Hello Dana Middle School Community,

This is Mr. Gebhart, principal, and I hope you are all safe and healthy as we embark on this third week of the school closure.

The world, our country, our community, and our everyday individual lives continue to shift, and as we deal with the ever-changing social circumstances, our school remains a community that joins us all.

As this unifying structure, Dana MS is taking the following steps to provide consistency and an appropriate educational program to families and students through this longer than originally expected distance learning model:

  • Beginning Tuesday, March 31, and continuing this week, Dana MS will begin distribution of available electronic devices to students who have no access to a device at home. Please look for further information on the distribution schedule on the Dana MS website at www.danams.us, Schoology, the Richard Henry Dana Middle School Facebook page, and other communication channels.
  • This week, March 30 through April 2, all Dana MS teachers are participating in a variety of professional development activities to increase their distance learning proficiency and meet the needs of students in this new educational structure.
  • School activities are “closed” for spring break, effective Friday, April 3 (Cesar Chavez holiday), through Friday, April 10.
  • Beginning Monday April 13, Dana MS classes will begin a consistent schedule of meeting times and requirements. Please find the complete schedule of class meetings and teacher office hours on the Dana MS website at www.danams.us, Schoology, the Richard Henry Dana Middle School Facebook page, and other communication channels.
  • Teachers will be creating video instructional tools for any student who can not “meet” during a designated class time, as well as non-technology options for any student who does not have extended access to technology to complete on-line tasks.

As the entire Dana MS school community supports each other through this next phase of school structure, I want to reiterate my philosophy and perspective that I shared earlier regarding Dana MS student and community expectations, notably that the health and safety of all students and their families is the primary focus during this crisis.

The issues brought on by this unprecedented situation will result in community members experiencing various levels of stress and trauma. In addition to providing an academic program, our responsibility is to minimize any secondary trauma created by additional pressures or stressors.

Thus, as we move forward utilizing the trauma-sensitive lens through which Dana MS has been operating the past few years, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, or any member of the Dana MS staff, to communicate any challenges for which we can provide support.  Though we are temporarily not as physically present, we are all still close, connected, and here for support.

I am grateful to be part of this community, and look forward continuing to partner with all stakeholders on supporting student and community health, safety, and success.

Respectfully,

Steve Gebhart

-------------------------------

Respetuosamente,

Steve Gebhart

*Principal's Update, 3-26-2020: Technology Survey

Hello Dana MS Community,

As announced on Monday by LAUSD Superintendent Beutner, school closure has been extended until May 1.  Due to this, Dana MS is taking an inventory of student/family technology resources, to determine which students are in need of a computer device to be used at home.

Please click the following link to complete the survey: https://bit.ly/danams_tech

Additional information on how to access the survey will be sent with: teachers through Schoology, phone calls from administration, posts on the Dana website, posts on the Dana Facebook page, and any other communication method to allow students/families to take the survey.

Once all student needs have been determined, devices will begin to be distributed next week.  A schedule and directions for pickup will be transmitted through the same channels.

With the understanding that these are difficult times for all, it is the goal of everyone at Dana MS to make this transition to home school learning as easy and stress free as possible.

Please take care of yourselves and your families.

Best,

Steve Gebhart

Principal

Principal's Message: March 22, 2020

Hello Dana Middle School Community,

Monday, March 23, marks the beginning of the second week of the school closure.

The past week has seen a complete shift in our world, country, community, and everyday individual lives.

Though the challenges we face together extend beyond Dana Middle School, the school is a community that joins us all.  Given this, in this time of social distancing I feel it is of additional importance to remain supportive of, and connected to, each other.

With that, I would like to share my philosophy and perspective regarding Dana MS student and community expectations.  Specifically, I want to be explicit in communicating that the health and safety of all students and their families is the primary focus during this crisis.

The issues brought on by this unprecedented situation can (and will) result in community members experiencing various levels of stress and trauma. Our responsibility is to minimize any secondary trauma created by additional pressures or stressors.

In the coming days and weeks, more information will be communicated detailing how extended-period distance learning will operate, both structurally and academically.

As this process is finalized, I encourage everyone to adopt the trauma-sensitive lens through which Dana MS has been operating the past few years (outlined in the Principal’s Page of the Dana website https://danams-lausd-ca.schoolloop.com/principal), best summarized by the page’s header quote:

“And if those children are unresponsive, maybe you can’t teach them yet, but you can love them…and if you love them today, maybe you can teach them tomorrow.”

I am grateful to be part of this community, and look forward continuing to partner with all stakeholders on supporting student and community health, safety, and success.

Respectfully,

Steve Gebhart

----------------------------------------------------------

Respetuosamente,
